At the beginning of this week my Mum came down for a few nights to help me out a bit as Phil’s been sick and my pelvis has been quite sore. It was so nice – someone to occupy Daisy while I got on with vaguely nesty things, or sat on the couch and moaned about my puffy ankles! We managed to get the supermarket shopping done – I’ve been doing it online for the last few weeks as I was finding lifting the bags and manoeuvring the trolley quite difficult. So Mum helped with this, and it was nice to choose my own produce and linger in the aisles about which brand of yoghurt to buy etc. We also took Daisy to Playcentre together, so Mum knows where to take her in future when she comes down to help out post-partum. I was able to sneak away for half an hour and have a cheeky latte in a nearby café – on my own. It was bliss!
Phil arranged to go in to work late so he was able to attend our morning midwife visit this week too. He hasn’t attended any yet – due to work, so it was nice for him to be able to address some of his questions and get reassurance from Jacqui that she would be giving him ideas and suggestions about how to best support me at the time. He felt a little at a loss of how to help me when I was labouring with Daisy, and will glad for a bit of direction this time I think. Palpation again confirmed that this baby is probably not as large as Daisy was, and has her head wedged well down in my pelvis, and is in a great position. All excellent things which I was pleased to hear! We have the birth pool in our possession now, and still need to have a practice setting it up. I am aware that I may or may not end up using it – it takes ages to fill so it’s possible I won’t get a chance to if labour is quite fast. Baby has been very active this week and I’ve taken great amusement at watching the large protrusions running across my belly. I can make out what I think are elbows, knees and heels quite clearly.
We are well and truly in countdown mode now!
